The western Conejo Valley, at the doorstep of the Santa Monica Mountains
Newbury Park is the western part of Thousand Oaks, stretching from the Ventu Park and Lynn Road area west to the top of the Conejo Grade above Camarillo. It is not a separate city (most of it is inside Thousand Oaks city limits), but it has its own identity, ZIP code and a strong neighborhood feel.
Its big draw is location: the Santa Monica Mountains and the trails into Point Mugu State Park start at the south end of town, the Oxnard Plain and the beach are about 20 minutes down the grade, and the 101 keeps Thousand Oaks jobs and the San Fernando Valley in reach. Homes range from 1960s-70s single-story tracts to newer master-planned neighborhoods such as Dos Vientos.
Newbury Park is one of the best-connected places in the county for hikers. Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa, part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, opens onto Boney Mountain and the Sycamore Canyon trail that runs all the way down to the ocean at Point Mugu State Park. Open space surrounds Dos Vientos and the Conejo Ridge, with trailheads inside many neighborhoods.

Electricity: Southern California Edison (SCE) owns the lines, reads the meter and sends the bill (sce.com, 1-800-655-4555). Thousand Oaks is a member of Clean Power Alliance (CPA), so homes are enrolled in CPA for the power supply by default; the default tier is 100% Green Power. Customers can switch tiers or opt out at cleanpoweralliance.org or 888-585-3788. Unincorporated pockets such as Casa Conejo fall under unincorporated Ventura County, which also defaults to 100% Green Power.
Natural gas: Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) (socalgas.com, 1-800-427-2200). Some rural and hillside homes use propane instead, so check the listing.
Water: Much of Newbury Park is served by California American Water (888-237-1333); some areas are served by the City of Thousand Oaks or Camrosa Water District. Check the City's water providers page for the purveyor map.
Sewer: City of Thousand Oaks (Hill Canyon Treatment Plant) inside city limits; unincorporated areas may differ.
Trash and recycling: Athens Services inside Thousand Oaks city limits (805-852-5264); unincorporated pockets are served by the County's contracted hauler for that area.
Internet: Spectrum (cable) is the most common wired option; Frontier or AT&T offer DSL or fiber depending on the neighborhood, and fixed-wireless (T-Mobile, Verizon) and satellite services fill gaps. Look up the exact address on the FCC National Broadband Map.
