Just over the county line, where the Santa Monica Mountains meet the 101
Agoura Hills lies along the 101 at the western edge of Los Angeles County, bordered by Westlake Village, Oak Park and Calabasas. Ladyface Mountain rises behind the city and the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area wraps around it, so the setting feels more rural than its location suggests.
Ventura County buyers often shop Agoura Hills alongside Westlake Village and Oak Park. The trade-offs are mostly about county services and the school district (Las Virgenes Unified). The housing mix runs from condos and 1960s-80s tract homes to hillside custom homes and larger-lot horse properties in Old Agoura.
Agoura Hills is a trail town. National Park Service lands at Cheeseboro and Palo Comado Canyons and Paramount Ranch (with its rebuilt Western movie-town set) are minutes away, and the Ladyface Mountain trail climbs right behind the city. City parks include Chumash Park and Reyes Adobe Park. The Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing over the 101 at Liberty Canyon is being built here to connect the Santa Monica Mountains with the Simi Hills.

Electricity: Southern California Edison (SCE) owns the lines, reads the meter and sends the bill (sce.com, 1-800-655-4555). Agoura Hills is a member of Clean Power Alliance (CPA), so homes are enrolled in CPA for the power supply by default; the default tier is 100% Green Power. Customers can switch tiers or opt out at cleanpoweralliance.org or 888-585-3788.
Natural gas: Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) (socalgas.com, 1-800-427-2200). Some rural and hillside homes use propane instead, so check the listing.
Water: Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (818-251-2100).
Sewer: Public sewer through Las Virgenes MWD and Los Angeles County Sanitation District facilities; parts of Old Agoura use private septic systems, so check the listing and disclosures.
Trash and recycling: Waste Management (WM) for residential service (805-522-9400).
Internet: Spectrum (cable) is the most common wired option; Frontier or AT&T offer DSL or fiber depending on the neighborhood, and fixed-wireless (T-Mobile, Verizon) and satellite services fill gaps. Look up the exact address on the FCC National Broadband Map.
